How to measure for a habesha kemis

Tigrinya (ትግርኛ) and Amharic (አማርኛ) versions are coming soon. They're being translated by native speakers instead of a machine.

Before you start

Step 1

Bust

Around the fullest part of your chest, tape level all the way round, arms relaxed.

Step 2

Waist

Around your natural waist (the narrowest part, usually just above the belly button). Bend sideways: the crease is your waist.

Step 3

Hips

Feet together, around the fullest part of your hips and seat.

Step 4

Shoulder width

Across your back, from the edge of one shoulder bone to the other.

Step 5

Neck

Around the base of your neck, one finger under the tape.

Step 6

Sleeve length

From the shoulder edge, over a slightly bent elbow, down to the wrist bone (or where you want the sleeve to end).

Step 7

Upper arm circumference

Around the fullest part of your upper arm, arm relaxed.

Step 8

Full length (shoulder to floor)

From the top of the shoulder near the neck straight down to the floor while wearing the shoes you will wear.

Step 9

Height

Barefoot against a wall, floor to the top of your head.
